BOLOGNESE

Ingredients:What you'll need:
500g mince meat
1 medium onion
1 yellow pepper
2 tins of plum (chopped) tomatoes
Some gravy granules
Your choice of spices (see side tab for my spice cupboard)
Your choice of cooking oil
A chopping board
A knife (any as long as it's sharp and not serrated)
Frying pan
Cooking pot

1. Get your ingredients together: onions, oil (I have olive oil, slightly more expensive but I'd run out of corn oil), pepper, meat, spices etc. *Don't forget to wash the pepper.
2. Pour some cooking oil into cooking pot; you don't need much because as the mince meat cooks it will create it's own "meat oil". Turn the hob on to a medium heat. Once hot, add the mince meat. Cover the pot to aid cooking.
3. In the frying pan heat up some oil.
Then slice your onion up (the way you cut your onion depends on the dish).. for reasons you'll see in the following step.
4. Once sliced, I add them to the frying pan. And get to cutting my yellow pepper. In this instance there is no right way to cut the pepper. You can do cubes, thins, rings.. Add them to the onions.
5. Add the now sauteed onions and pepper to the fried mince meat.
*Make sure the mince meat is thoroughly cooked!
At this point, you may choose to boil some pasta/spaghetti.
6. Add tins of plum (chopped) tomatoes to pot.

7. Add 2 tbsp of gravy granules to both thicken and add flavour to the sauce.
I also use this opportunity to add more spices to the mixture.. (sorry, I don't have measurements)
The sauce will be ready once oil starts to appear on the surface.
8. Serve!
*Notice the guest appearance from the broccoli AKA don't forget the veg!

To cook all of this was no more than £5, and so far it's lasted for 4 days of once-a-day eating.

A quick point to make:

My plum tomatoes were an experiment from Aldi.. personally I believe you pay for what you get.. including a yellow tomato. Normally I would buy Sainsbury's/Asda etc. etc. brand or whatever is on offer.

This meal took no more than 40 minutes to prepare and cook, so really get on it!

*Dedicated to BDBMc.
